Potential of controlled natural tree regeneration (CNR) for urban forest management in Kampala, Uganda

要旨本文 Kampala city is constrained by limited financing and budgets. Free tree seeds from mother trees can contribute to reducing city tree planting budgets and stabilizing tree diversity. City data recorded from July 2021 to June 2024 was used for research. Controlled natural regeneration (CNR) for the research started with tree seed collection to planting. Data was analyzed for species’ regenerative capacity, environmental and economic impact. The total number of tree species recorded was 39. Only 34 are exotic, 5 are indigenous to Uganda. Aleurites moluccanus (2,122 individuals) demonstrated the highest regenerative potential, followed by Grevillea robusta (1,469 individuals), Khaya anthotheca (1,011 individuals) and Bombax buonopozense (995 individuals). The total annual estimated worth of all regenerated saplings at planting stage is UGX 260,122,800 (_74,200 USD). Over a three-year's period, this amounts to UGX 780,368,400 (222,000 USD)
