| 要旨本文 | This study examined soil carbon pool characteristics in a naturally regenerated forest dominated by Mallotus japonicus (Akamegashiwa) in Akiruno City, Tokyo, which developed 27 years after clear-cutting of the coniferous plantation. Akamegashiwa is rich in polyphenols (PP), so we hypothesized that PP binds to proteins and heavy metals, thereby affecting soil carbon accumulation . Four 10 m × 10 m plots were established along a slope gradient, with selective thinning applied to two upper-slope plots in 2009. Soil properties and carbon composition were analyzed in 2026. Surface soils exhibited higher soil moisture, organic carbon, total nitrogen, and dissolved organic carbon compared with subsurface soils, whereas Fe/Al-associated organic carbon (Fe/Al-OC) was greater in subsurface soils. Selective thinning increased Fe/Al-OC in surface soils but reduced microbial biomass carbon in subsurface soils. |
