| 要旨本文 | Identifying tree species with high heat tolerance is increasingly important for sustainable forest management under global warming. Here, we compared leaf thermal tolerance and morphological traits among Melia azedarach individuals originating from different regions of Japan. Leaf thermal tolerance was evaluated using T50, where quantum yield (Qy) declined to 50% of the initial, maximum value, and the rate of Qy decline (α),along with several morphological traits.The T50 of M. azedarach ranged 48.0~49.5 ℃. Trees from Kyoto, Fukui, Wakayama and Hyogo tended to be more tolerant (higher T50), while trees from Hiroshima and Okayama tended to be more resistant (lower α). Thermal tolerance traits, however, didn’t show clear relationships with morphological traits or regional climate conditions. This inconclusive result is likely attributable to the lack of detailed genetic and cultivation history of the study species. |
