| 要旨本文 |
Wetland ecosystems in Bangladesh are experiencing rapid degradation due to anthropogenic pressures and unplanned land use, threatening their ecological balance and sustainability. This study investigates vegetation structure, tree diversity, and carbon sequestration in Arial Beel wetland of Bangladesh. Using 20 nested plots and satellite imagery, species composition, biodiversity indices, and aboveground carbon stocks were assessed across vegetation types. Allometric equations estimated carbon sequestration rate, while remote sensing supported landscape-level analysis. The study identified 42 plant species in Arial Beel, including 14 tree species dominated by Eucalyptus obliqua, Barringtonia acutangula and Crateva religiosa. Vegetation distribution varied with topography and water availability, covering 4,696.25 ha. Average carbon sequestration was 0.02 Mg CO_/tree/year, highest in Coconut followed by Eucalyptus. The findings highlight ecological variations and their implications for ecosystem services and wetland sustainability. |
