Transmigration: The Potential Economic and the Forest Sustainability in Aceh

The ecosystem services provided by forest areas can differ, including water provision, micro- and macroclimate regulation, soil preservation, and habitat for diverse wildlife. The Sumatran forests are part of the tropical forest that has remained intact throughout the century. The opening of the forest region for various purposes may unleash economic potential; nevertheless, it may also result in calamities due to mismanagement. The Expedition of Patriots, organized by the Ministry of Transmigration, assessed the economic potential and ancillary aspects while aiming to mitigate detrimental effects on the ecosystem. The coexistence of coffee plantations, durian, and nutmeg with the habitats of the Sumatran tiger and Sumatran elephant warrants careful consideration in future development plans. |
