| 要旨本文 | Ridge-to-reef landscapes in the Solomon Islands face increasing pressure from deforestation and forest degradation. Unsustainable removal of primary forests threatens ecosystem balance, highlighting the need for effective monitoring. However, physical monitoring is challenged by financial constraints, rugged terrain, and limited resources. This study explores the use of satellite remote sensing and GIS to monitor forest cover. By analyzing multitemporal Landsat imagery from 2015 to 2023, spatial and temporal forest change maps were generated. Results show forest loss extending from coastlines to elevations above 400_m, especially on ridgetops of larger islands. Change detection revealed ongoing forest removal alongside signs of vegetation recovery. This study demonstrates the potential of multitemporal satellite imagery for monitoring forest dynamics in the Solomon Islands. |
