The Japanese Forest Society The Japanese Forest SocietyThe Japanese Forest Society (JFS) is a scientific and professional organization founded in 1914, and has nearly 3,000 individuals and institutional members. Today's environmental and resources problems range from local to global scales and indicate that forests play an essential role by regulating carbon, water, sediment, and nutrients flows, and by providing wood products, wildlife habitat, and recreational opportunities. The JFS's main objectives are to advance both forest science and forestry, to support human well-being and culture by identifying and solving environmental and resources problems, and to contribute to the sustainable development of human society.
The JFS supports communication among members devoted to studying forest science and forestry issues, covering all aspects of an interdisciplinary science, including biology, ecology, hydrology, environmental science and socio-economy.
To meet the above objectives, the society organizes annual meetings and publishes three scientific journals - Journal of Forest Research (in English ; impact factor(2007) is 0.492), Journal of the Japanese Forest Society (in Japanese with English summary) and Shinrin Kagaku (in Japanese). The society has six branch offices (from Hokkaido to Kyusyu district), each of them holding annual meetings and field excursions.

・Student member (only for residents in Japan) 5,000 yen
・Institutional member 18,000 yen
・Supporting member more than one unit (one unit: 30,000 yen)
Regular and student member fee includes one-year subscription of Journal of the Japanese Forest Society (you can choose Journal of Forest Research instead of Journal of the Japanese Forest Society if you lived outside Japan). Instututional and supporting member fee includes one-year subscription of all three journal.
